The Country Canine Care Story
Hello! My name is Lisadawn, my nickname is LD. When I was 2 years old my Dad got transferred to work up north in Alberta in a small town, my parents bought me a puppy for company and it was love at first cuddle. I can’t imagine not having a dog in the family. My pack has ranged from 1 to 3 dogs depending on the year and the circumstance! I have enjoyed my pure bred dogs, mixed mutts, and rescue dogs. I have fostered a dog for PADS (Pacific Assistant Dog Society) and I volunteered for OWL (Orphan Wildlife) when I lived in Vancouver. During vacations, I try to spend time at local shelters and most recently enjoyed walking dogs in Belize at the Caye Caulker shelter where we vacationed in 2015 to celebrate my big five oh!
More recently, you may recognize me from St Joseph’s ICU where I have worked full time as a critical care nurse since moving here to the Island. Now, as I approach semi-retirement I am working part time at the new hospital. I am fortunate enough to be at a place in my life where I can pursue my dream to combine my love of dogs with my years of caring for people by creating a place where dogs are safe and cared for like a member of our family; a place where families are welcome to join in on classes; a place where you feel comfortable to leave your dog for day care or overnight boarding.
I am a current student of Canine Correspondence Studies (CCS) owned and operated by Norma Jeanne Laurette who is the founder of IPDTA (International Positive Dog Training Association) please see the link here on our website for more information. I also have my CPDT-KA designation.
My husband Rich and I moved to Vancouver Island in 2011 to co-parent Rich’s young children Dawson and Madison. We spent the first 6 years searching for the perfect property to purchase, raise our family and launch our business. Luckily, we found this lovely 8.5 acres at the end of Green Avenue in the heart of beautiful Union Bay.
With our business plan in our back pocket, we started off by building the main facility, landscaping, and fencing and slowly grew the business.
Country Canine Care is a family business. You’ll find Rich working in the fields with the dogs, Madison helps during the summer and after school, and LD is focusing now on the Classroom and training while managing the administrative side of the business.
We look forward to meeting you, your family and your dog(s) and look forward to providing quality canine care to the Comox Valley for years to come.
“We sent our dog Cooper to stay at Country Canine Care for a week. He was so excited when we dropped him off. There was not an ounce of anxiety in our usually anxious dog. He spent the week being loved and exercised. We picked him up happy and tired from all his exercise. We would recommend Lisadawn and Rich in a heartbeat. Their love of dogs and compassion to our anxious dog was obvious to both us and to him.”

“Country Canine Care is the BEST!!! My dog Mischief loves it there and gets the best care ever…. she gets picked up and dropped off from the house which makes it so much easier as I don’t need to be worrying about getting to work on time, and she comes home clean, walked, brushed and happy. She’s almost disappointed to be home! I would recommend Country Canine Care to anyone looking for a fun, caring and safe dog care service provider.”
